The Hunger Games

I finished the Hunger Games: Mockingjay last night, I have to say It was an amazing book. When it started, it was interesting because of the tragic ending of the book before it, Catching Fire. But after I read about 50 pages it started to get quite boring, there wasn’t as much action in this book as the last two.

Around page 100 the book Its starts up again. You start to get really into it, constant suspense of a non stop entertaining thriller.

I have to say one of the best quotes in the book would have to be ‘’IF WE BURN YOU BURN WITH US’’.

On pages 145 and 146 you really start to see how katniss and several other characters feel about what is happening, katniss brings up what happened to rue in the hunger games and even sings the song she sung to rue as she was dying. Even though she is only about 17 or 18, katniss has really grown up in this book she has to make some very big decisions which could mean life or death.

I was heart broken near the end, so many people get killed because of the rebellion. But I was mostly interested in who katniss would pick in the end, Peeta or Gale. I was surprised with who she picked but I was relieved she did, Because if you think about it the hunger games is about the districts fight for freedom.. Its not a love story.

While I loved this book, I do have some criticism about it. I couldn’t help thinking that throughout the entire third book I wasn’t nearly as hypnotised as I was in the first two, which I literally couldn’t put down for more than 10 seconds.

I felt like the characters became a little muddled and I was left unsure exactly who Katniss was. I didn’t think it really described how katniss was feeling through the hardest and saddest of times.

I think Suzanne Collins should make Mockingjay about 150 – 200 pages longer. This should include:
all about Gale`s life in district 2.
What Haymitch, the prep team and Effie do.
What Peeta and Katness do.
What happens to the rest of Panem.

Although I thought there were parts in the book that could have been described more thornily, I thought that Mockingjay was quite breath-taking. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to really get into books, this is a great book to get into.
I would recommend it to 10+ and would give it 9 out of 10 stars.
In conclusion, I feel that Suzanne Collins has crafted a realistic, hauntingly beautiful piece of 453 pages about the themes of love, war, and sacrifice.
Mockingjay is an amazing read.
