The saga of Larten Crepsley

One of my favourite series of books would have to be The saga of Larten Crepsley by Darren Shan. I read The saga of Darren Shan but I have to say I loved these more. There made up of four books, I wished they would have been longer, I had them all read within a week.

I read the Darren Shan series before the Larten Crepsley so I knew what to except really. But I have to say they were still as amazingly entertaining even if I hadn’t read the Darren Shan before hand. I was so tremendously happy when I heard that he wrote a series for Larten Crepsley. He was my favourite character and it was great to learn about his history.

The first book Birth of a killer tells you how Larten came to become a vampire. The book starts right into it, with the very first sentence on the page. “When Larten Crepsley awoke and yawned one grey morning, he had no idea that by midday he would have become a killer”.

I cant even think of what to say, these books were phenomenal! One thing I always know when I pick up a Darren Shan novel is that its going to be an emotional and over-whelming ride. By the end of the Darren Shan series I was amazed at how many questions I had about most characters and when reading The saga of Larten Crepsley they were all answered.

These are one of the best set of books I have ever read. I could read them over and over again until my eyes fall out from reading to much and I would not get tired of them. I would definitely insist you read these books before the Darren Shan saga. You will understand the Darren Shan ones more and you will take pleasure in them much more.

They were an absolutely astonishing and much-loved set of books. I really don’t know how to express how much I am in love with the books. I literally have no words. All I can say is to read them and see for your self. I am insuring that you will love them. Nobody can read these books and not fall completely in love with them.

Some of my favourite Larten Crepsley quotes are:

“Where will a creature of darkness hide if not in the shadows of the light”

“Life is too short for hate"

"They used to call me Quicksilver,” he whispered, smiling hollowly. “Fastest hands in the world” Then the smile vanished. His eyes flashed. And, like a silver of deadly mercury, he attacked…”

I would recommended this book to twelve’s and up. I was tremendously delighted with the
conclusion - or rather, the beginning... I wanted to give it four stars but the ending was just to astoundingly wonderful that I have to give it five starts.

Altogether it was a really astounding series, and I'm really sad that it has to end, but I'm glad I read them.

The saga of Darren Shan

The saga of Darren Shan is made up of 12 books written by Darren O’Shaughnessy. The books are about a young boy who becomes a vampire to save his best friends life. It shows his struggle to learn there ways and except his vampirism.

I loved the books because there are so many, At first you think that every thing is going to work out for Darren. Then gradually things start to meddle and twist, I cant give away too many details otherwise it’ll spoil it for people going to read the books!

I absolutely loved the characters, they made the book complete. Mr Crepsley was my favourite character, he is very sarcastic, He is suspected to be about 180–200 years old and was once a Vampire General. He’s a very dark and suspicious character.

The only reason I started reading these books was because of the movie. The movie came out in 2009. It wasn’t as amazing as the books, it had none of the details, it didn’t even have half of the description of the characters. But the books are always extremely better than the movie.

I was exited to read this book. I mean it was recommended by J.K. Rowling of all people! I was disappointed when I finished the series. If Darren wrote more books I would definitely intend to read them.

While I did love these books I do have some criticism about it. Firstly, every sentence has an exclamation point and the most important thing to Darren Shan is recess. Secondly, as a horror novel, There is nothing scary about anything in this book at all.

“Or maybe you're going crazy," I throw in.
"Maybe," Kernel agrees.
"I was joking," I tell him.
"I wasn't," he replies.” - Darren Shan

I would recommend it to anyone who loves books that keep you on the edge of your seat. I gave this series of books 9 out of 10 starts because I wish they would of described other characters as much as they did for Darren Shan.

They are an astonishing, overwhelming and breath-taking series of books.

The Skulduggery Pleasant series

The Skulduggery Pleasant series of books by Derek Landy, were the first set of books that I read. They are made up of 7 books, 5 short stories and a new book being released soon. So I thought that before the new book comes out, The Kingdom of the Wicked, that I would give a review of what to expect.

I have to say that I absolutely loved these books, they are my favourite and Derek Landy is an inspiration to me. He has written the books very well. From the details in the scenes to the description of the characters. It’s a set of books I just could not put down, I enjoyed every word and was glued to the books. If you read them you will have lots of paper cuts from non stop reading and page turning.

The books are about a girl, Stephanie, who’s uncle has just died. When she and her family go over to hear about the will, they stand in the room awaiting on one Mr Skulduggery Pleasant. Then the door opened and the man in a tanned overcoat entered the room. “Everyone in the room stared at him, stared at the scarf and the gloves and the sunglasses and the wild fuzzy hair. It was a glorious day outside, certainly not the kind of weather to be wrapped up like this”.

I loved these books because they’re fun, full of action, the scenes are perfectly pitched, scary diabolical villains and creepiness.

Skulduggery Pleasant is, well, there’s no way to explain it really, he’s technically different. He’s a skeleton detective. That’s right, a skeleton, a collection of bones with no skin, blood or internal organs. And his head, it's not even his own. He won the skull he's wearing in a poker game.

Something I really loved in the books was all the different types of magicians, you don’t have witches or warlocks, you have something way better. There are Sorcerers, Adepts, Elementals and Necromancy.

In the first book Its all about Stephanie’s life, family and how she’s dealing with the hole detective, magician, warrior and dead part. I desperately want to tell you about everything, all the fights, deaths and villains… But I won’t, I will let you buy the book and enjoy it from the hilarious comments skulduggery makes down to the saving the world from ultimate evil.

“Being a detective isn’t all about torture and murder and monsters. Sometimes it gets truly unpleasant. The fate of the world may depend on whether or not you can bring yourself to visit your relatives.” - Skulduggery Pleasant to Stephanie.

I absolutely adored this book, It was breath taking. I would give it 10 out of 10 of course. I would recommend this to all ages young and old. It’s an amazing read. Derek Landy is my favourite author, he is my inspiration and does an amazing job writing these mystery novels. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading mystery novels and wish everyone who does read it good luck, because you will not be able to put it down for more than two seconds once you pick it up.

I loved these books so much, the best I’ve ever read.

I cant wait for the next one.

The Hunger Games

I finished the Hunger Games: Mockingjay last night, I have to say It was an amazing book. When it started, it was interesting because of the tragic ending of the book before it, Catching Fire. But after I read about 50 pages it started to get quite boring, there wasn’t as much action in this book as the last two.

Around page 100 the book Its starts up again. You start to get really into it, constant suspense of a non stop entertaining thriller.

I have to say one of the best quotes in the book would have to be ‘’IF WE BURN YOU BURN WITH US’’.

On pages 145 and 146 you really start to see how katniss and several other characters feel about what is happening, katniss brings up what happened to rue in the hunger games and even sings the song she sung to rue as she was dying. Even though she is only about 17 or 18, katniss has really grown up in this book she has to make some very big decisions which could mean life or death.

I was heart broken near the end, so many people get killed because of the rebellion. But I was mostly interested in who katniss would pick in the end, Peeta or Gale. I was surprised with who she picked but I was relieved she did, Because if you think about it the hunger games is about the districts fight for freedom.. Its not a love story.

While I loved this book, I do have some criticism about it. I couldn’t help thinking that throughout the entire third book I wasn’t nearly as hypnotised as I was in the first two, which I literally couldn’t put down for more than 10 seconds.

I felt like the characters became a little muddled and I was left unsure exactly who Katniss was. I didn’t think it really described how katniss was feeling through the hardest and saddest of times.

I think Suzanne Collins should make Mockingjay about 150 – 200 pages longer. This should include:
all about Gale`s life in district 2.
What Haymitch, the prep team and Effie do.
What Peeta and Katness do.
What happens to the rest of Panem.

Although I thought there were parts in the book that could have been described more thornily, I thought that Mockingjay was quite breath-taking. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to really get into books, this is a great book to get into.
I would recommend it to 10+ and would give it 9 out of 10 stars.
In conclusion, I feel that Suzanne Collins has crafted a realistic, hauntingly beautiful piece of 453 pages about the themes of love, war, and sacrifice.
Mockingjay is an amazing read.

My Cricket blob

This is my summer project, well sort of. My Aunt gave me the idea start a blog about giving my opinion on books I have read or am reading. I thought it was a god idea so I am going to give it a go.
I am going to write my thoughts and opinion of the book, what rating I would give it and If I would recommend it to.
I won't tell you what happens in the books in case you want read them, but I will tel you bits that were either funny or Interesting.
Okay, now your probably wandering about the name, ''My cricket Blob''. My Aunt actually came up with it.
She said to her daughter that I was going to be a book critic, Her Daughter then said ''cricket'' instead of critic. Then the blob part, On the way out the door my Aunt shouted ''Good luck with the blob!'' or something along those lines, but I definitely heard the word blob! I'm gonna just stick with Blog anyway, blob sounds weird lol.
By that time I was fascinated with the idea of having a Blog and being able to tell you what I thought of the books I have read.
The first thing my mum said to me when we got into the car was ''Finally Pauline did her job as a god mother and gave you some guidance'' and with that I decided to write an intro to my Bloging days and here it is.
I will write about one book a week and put it up on Monday. If I can I'll do two. The first book I'll put up will be the book I'm reading now. It will be up later or tomorrow at the latest.
